I am getting a little behind in my posts, as the loading of the pictures is tres lento on the ship. We shall see if it improves in any of our future wifi spots.
We traveled a short distance by coach after docking in Koblenz to Marksburg Castle, which is 700 years old. It was quite demanding to walk on very steep and very rocky roads, some of which are original. This castle was basically used as a fortress, and has been restored to give a glimpse into its history.
We saw a beautiful garden, the armory, the torture chamber, the kitchen and dining chambers, a lady's bed chamber, chapel and more. The views of the Rhine far below were tremendous.
On our return, we were handed a Tequila Sunrise as we walked onto the ship. Not sure of the connection there, but it was welcomed!
We then traveled to Rudesheim, a small town where we walked around, and when it started to pour rain, we stepped inside a small cafe for a drink. This town was very picturesque, and had a wine museum. Rudesheim is located near Bingen, of Hildegard fame, and saw references to her here.
In the afternoon, we learned to make Rudesheim coffee (flaming brandy, coffee, whipped cream) and then were served German sweets --- Black Forest cake, apple tart, etc.
